What we collect, why, and what we do not do with it. If you only read one line: we do not sell your data, and we do not use your purchase to sell you something else.
Who is responsible
Own Your Half operates this site and is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us through the contact page or at the email address in the footer of every page.
For orders processed by Paddle as the Merchant of Record, Paddle is a separate controller of the data it needs to take the payment, issue the receipt and account for tax. Its own privacy notice covers that.
What we collect, and why
When you buy: your email address, the package, the edition language, the currency and amount, the date, and the payment provider's confirmation that the payment succeeded, including the provider's own reference for it. We never receive your full card number. We need this to deliver the files, to keep the sales records the law requires, to handle refunds and to answer questions about the order. The legal basis is the contract with you and our legal obligations.
When you visit: the country your connection comes from, as reported by our content delivery network, is used once to suggest a currency and is not stored. The region, language and theme you choose are kept in cookies on your own device, not on our servers.
When you subscribe to updates: your email address and your chosen language, nothing else. The legal basis is your consent, which you withdraw with the unsubscribe link in any of those emails.
When you write to us: your message and the address you sent it from, for as long as it takes to deal with the matter. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.
Like most sites, we keep basic server logs — request paths, timestamps, IP addresses, browser type — for security and to diagnose faults. They are kept for a short time and are not used to build a profile of you.
Who else sees it
The payment provider, to take the payment: Paddle (www.paddle.com/legal/privacy) for euro, dollar, pound and other non-hryvnia orders, as Merchant of Record; LiqPay, a PrivatBank service (www.liqpay.ua/documentation/policy), for hryvnia orders. Each receives what it needs to process the payment and applies its own privacy notice to that step.
Amazon Web Services, which hosts the site, stores the order records and sends our transactional and update emails. Our infrastructure runs in the European Union (Frankfurt).
That is the list. No advertising networks, no analytics companies, no data brokers. We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and the list of people who have bought is never treated as a marketing audience.
Where your data goes
Our own systems are in the European Union. Paddle is based in the United Kingdom and the United States and processes payment data there under its own published safeguards; LiqPay processes hryvnia payments in Ukraine. If you are in the EU or UK, transfers to those providers rely on the protections those providers publish for that purpose.
How long we keep it
Order records: for as long as the law requires us to keep sales records, and for as long as your download access depends on them — then removed.
The updates list: until you unsubscribe. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and using it removes you from the list.
Contact messages: deleted once the matter is closed, unless they relate to an order we still have to keep a record of.
Server logs: a short, fixed period, then discarded.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not obliged to keep it. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our using it, or receive it in a portable format. Write through the contact page from the address the request concerns; we answer within a month.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to a data protection authority: in the EU, your national authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Children
The site and the guides are for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. We will not use data collected under this notice for something materially different without telling you first.
